History of Gavimath

Sri Gavimath was founded by His Holiness Rudramuni Shivacharya Maha Swamiji by the spiritual blessings of  Sri Gavisiddeshwara, the 11th Peethadhipati, who meditated at the serene Malemalleshwara and attained divinity.  As per the wish of 10th Swamiji Shri Guru Channabasava Shivayogi became the Peethadhipathi of  Sri Gavimath, who later called as Gavisiddha. He achieved Shivayoga through deep meditation and attained Nirvikalpa Samadhi.”

Having a glorious spiritual legacy of over 1,000 years, Sri Gavimath, Koppal, stands as a revered spiritual center of North Karnataka, dedicated to humanity through health care, social cause and empowering education. The Math has been steered by 17 illustrious Peethadhipathis, each leaving a valued path of service and spiritual excellence.

As a part of community service and harmony among the communities, the math celebrates Jatra Mahotsava in a holistic way where more than 10 lakh devotees receive the blessings from all over the country. His Holiness Shri Marishantaveera Mahaswamiji, the 16th Peethadhipati of Samsthana Shri Gavimath, was a great scholar endowed with profound knowledge of Sanskrit, Philosophy, Logic, and Ayurveda. A distinguished educationist, visionary, social reformer, who championed inclusive education, by establishing free boarding and hostel facilities for students, embracing all secular identities.

To preserve and further strengthen the educational institutions and free hostels established by the revered 16th Peethadhipati, The present Peethadhipati and Sole Trustee Sri Ma. Ni. Pra. Abhinava Gavisiddeshwara Mahaswamiji established Shree Shivashantaveera Mahaswamiji Charitable Trust in the year 2004 ensuring the continuation of noble cause of education and social reform. 

Sri Gavisiddeshwar free boarding and hostel for boys provides residential facilities to students across all caste and creeds, from class 5th standard up to the Post Graduation level. The students are admitted through a merit based entrance examination. 

The hostel provides a disciplined and supportive learning environment preparing the students for employment and competitive examination with an access of well-equipped 24×7 digital library.

Shree Gavisiddeshwar Gurukul Residential Pre-University College for girls is first of its kind in Kalyan Karnataka region.
